Christian Science has met my every need...

From the November 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has met my every need for more than three decades. I am profoundly grateful for Mrs. Eddy, who discovered and founded this great religion which accords with the life and teachings of Christ Jesus.

As a university student, I approached the study of Science more out of intellectual curiosity than in search of healing. However, the depression of the 1930's posed serious problems of supply, place, and employment, and I formed the habit of going to a Christian Science Reading Room for spiritual help. As a result, I was healed of smoking and social drinking. I can never be grateful enough for the help of the Reading Room attendants, a practitioner, and the inspiring church services I attended.

At a Wednesday evening testimony meeting early in my experience, I received an answer to a question that had been disturbing me—how does Christian Science heal? Many testifiers said that they "knew the truth" and were healed. I did not question their sincerity, but I wanted to know just how healing came about. The answer came from a testifier who quoted Mrs. Eddy's illuminating words (Science and Health, pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." I shall never forget hearing that statement on that occasion. It was like the opening of a door in my consciousness through which I moved out of limited, personal thinking into infinite possibilities of spiritual unfoldment.
