Even in earth's darkest moments and places the Christ is present, demanding (Mark 4:39), "Peace, be still." It is through letting go of material sense that we find the way out of the human into the divine.
In the early spring of 1964 I spent a few days at the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association on Pacific Coast, and later that same year I returned there. I was experiencing many aggressive symptoms. My husband was willing for me to stay at the Sanatorium and work the problem out in Christian Science, although he is not a student of Science.
However, when I continued to grow weaker and hemorrhaging occurred frequently, the fear and alarm over my condition seemed overwhelming. Throughout this experience I sought Christian Science help persistently. At this point it was explained to us by those in charge of the Sanatorium that the county health authorities would have to be notified of my illness because it now appeared to be of a contagious nature. These were dark days indeed.
