Several years ago, while serving with the Armed Forces in Korea, I experienced overwhelming proof of the power of Truth in dispelling the claims of error.
Early one morning I awoke to find my body covered with a severe skin irritation. Feeling rather doubtful at the time as to the healing efficacy of Christian Science, having no practitioner or fellow Christian Scientist to call upon for support, I responded to the advice of my superiors and reported to the base hospital for treatment instead of applying the truths of Christian Science.
For several days the physicians attempted to diagnose the condition without success while prescribing drugs to alleviate the extreme sense of irritation. With the disease growing continually worse, I was informed one evening that I would be airlifted the following morning to a large medical center in Japan for specialized treatment because the attending physicians were becoming concerned with my declining condition. Such a sense of frustration overcame me as a result of the lack of progress in my recovery that I scattered the medicines on the floor by my bed. I decided then and there to give Christian Science at least the same opportunity as I had given materia medica to effect a cure.
