From the February 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I so well remember an experience in my life prior to school age. One warm summer day I was playing alone in the yard of our home. Suddenly a direct thought startled my thinking. It came in the form of a question, "Who am I, and what am I doing here?" I was extremely frightened and immediately sought the companionship of some children nearby, fearing to be alone.

This question returned to my thought again and again through the years. As a child I attended various Sunday Schools, and recall a never-ending quest for an answer. Years passed and found me still searching, and never was I quite free from some form of fear.

I married and had two lovable children. My husband was employed for several years by the same company, and we spent part of that time on the East Coast. The time came when his work necessitated his being away from his family over long periods, a thing not to his liking.
