The Value of Our Leader's Biographies

From the February 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The purpose of a biography is to evaluate the character of an individual and record his accomplishments. Christian Scientists should not be unmindful of the love and unselfishness of their Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in establishing the Church of Christ, Scientist, and the Cause of which they all are beneficiaries. For this reason the biographies of our Leader, published by The Christian Science Publishing Society, have an important place in their study and unfoldment.

Every Scientist knows that in order to gain a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science he must study the textbook, Science and Health, and Mrs. Eddy's other writings, together with the Bible. Those who have been benefited by these teachings rightly love and revere Mrs. Eddy, but they do not deify her. Appreciation for her work is evidenced in gratitude and consecration.

From reading her biographies, one can see that Mrs. Eddy was by nature and experience particularly fitted to receive this revelation. She says in the textbook, "God had been graciously preparing me during many years for the reception of this final revelation of the absolute divine Principle of scientific mental healing."Science and Health, p. 107;
