The Practice and Its Rewards

From the January 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The public practice of Christian Science is an immensely rewarding career. It is the real answer to one's deepest aspirations. It not only is a noble profession in which we help and heal others, but also is the most effective means for promoting our own spiritual growth. The all-inclusiveness of divine Love becomes increasingly vivid and substantial to us as we express the nature of this Love to those who seek our help. The practitioner is constantly challenged to oppose and destroy the various forms of disease and limitation that present themselves to his thought. He develops in spiritual stature as he accepts these challenges and successfully copes with them through his understanding of God.

No matter how brief their period of study, all students of Christian Science should be practitioners of this Science in the sense that they should strive to utilize its teachings in the detail of their lives. The inspiration and consistency with which they do this will be the key factor in leading them into a wider usefulness. As they clarify their understanding of the perfection and unity of God and man, as they deepen their sense of spiritual purity and love, those in need inevitably will be drawn to them for healing.

Thus the way opens into the full-time practice of Christian Science healing. When the time arrives that we are prepared to do this work, Mind will speak to us within the depths of our thought. We will know that the only possible course is to go forward and upward. And putting our hand in the Father's, we will enter upon this wonderful work quietly, humbly, confidently. We can be sure that the one Mind—our Mind—will lead the way, supplying the inspiration to heal, and in the process meeting every human need abundantly.
