It is with great gratitude that I write of the efficacy of Christian Science in the healing of broken bones. Although the study and application of this Science have met and healed many discordant conditions all through my life, I am especially grateful for its ability to heal broken bones quickly and efficiently.
One summer while I was attending a boy scout camp, I fell, breaking and dislocating my wrist. My parents were visiting camp at the time and took me home. On the hour-long ride home, both my parents and I recalled many of the truths I had learned as a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School. Upon arriving home, late at night, my parents called a Christian Science practitioner. Through her prayerful work and that of my family I was back at camp in three days, bugling for the dedication of a neighboring scout camp. In one week's time I was again using my hand. That fall I was able to play a season of football.
A couple of years later during the football season, my ankle was sprained on a Friday. The next morning when I attempted to get up, my leg crumpled under me. With the help of my family and my own prayers I was out at football practice the next Monday.
Several years later I was playing in an exhibition basketball game and cracked a bone in my ankle. After a weekend of much prayerful study of our two textbooks, the King James Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I found I could be back at my teaching assignment the following Monday morning. One of the coaches had the same thing happen to his ankle at about the same time, and it resulted in his being out of school for a week and then returning to school wearing a cast for several more weeks.
At another time I visited a dentist to have my teeth cleaned. There was a cavity between my two front teeth, and one tooth was becoming blackened. The dentist remarked that we would have to watch that tooth. So I did just that, and the tooth grew darker. It was then I realized I must look away from matter and find the remedy in Truth. I held firmly to the statement in Science and Health (p. 423), "Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them." Through the following months I watched my thinking instead of my teeth. In about a year's time the discoloration disappeared. The difficulty had been overcome because I turned my thought from matter to spiritual consciousness. This healing occurred over fifteen years ago and has been permanent.
Just recently the practical application of Christian Science prayer resulted in the mending of a broken bone in my foot. I discovered one evening that a bone in my foot had been broken. Upon finding that I could not remember when it happened, I realized that no time could be attached to it, hence there need not be a time restriction as far as the healing was concerned. I also had the calming assurance of the past successful healings.
I was able to usher at church the next morning without limping. I realized that since the pain could not be in matter it had to be a suggestion of mortal mind. Of course, it was easy to do battle with such a suggestion as I realized there is only one Mind and that Mind expresses complete goodness. Therefore it did not leave error, mortal mind, a leg to stand on but did leave me two legs to stand on. It was at this point that my wife prayerfully helped me and reminded me of the previously quoted statement from Science and Health. The healing was so complete that in a week's time I was playing tennis. In fact, I never missed any activity or work.
Such healings can only invoke the greatest feeling of gratitude for the healing power of Christian Science.
