Forty-two years ago my husband and I decided to investigate Christian Science because we had seen a remarkable healing take place in the home of a friend. The following Sunday we attended our first Christian Science service. Although we understood very little of the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon, we were impressed with the size of the congregation and their evident devoutness as they listened. We left that church determined to learn more of this religion, which reinstates the healing practiced by our beloved Master, Christ Jesus, and is so different from what we had always believed of it. We borrowed a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy from the Christian Science Reading Room and read it straight through, taking turns reading aloud to each other.
The blessings that have come to our family as the result of that decision are innumerable. Healings, protection, guidance, and supply came as we grew in spiritual understanding. During the thirties when there seemed no opportunity for my husband to pursue his chosen profession, he was guided into another, and it was a source of continuing supply to us. Some years later he was able to merge the two professions, giving us more abundant supply and enabling him to be of greater service.
Our son and daughter grew up with very few physical problems and a love for Christian Science and for Mrs. Eddy. On the few occasions when they did manifest any of the so-called childhood diseases, they were quickly healed, sometimes through our own prayerful work, and sometimes with the support of a Christian Science practitioner, as we learned to trust them to God and not be afraid.
