A big yellow school bus rumbles to a stop. Scrubbed schoolchildren pile on, some of them clutching books. They're ready for a ride into town.
But it's not a school day; it's a Sunday! And it's Florida, where a branch church runs a busing program to pick up children for Sunday School — children who might not otherwise be able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School.
Making stops in several sections of Fort Lauderdale's black community, the bus then chugs its charges to First Church of Christ, Scientist. Volunteer attendants on the bus envelop the children in love — addressing each child by name, becoming acquainted with newcomers, being alert to comfort the shy and converse with the outgoing.
