Christian Science came into my life...

From the November 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came into my life seventy years ago. At that time I lived in a mining town in Colorado. My husband was a miner. I had a son who was sick with a stomach disorder. The doctor had told me the medicine he gave the child had no effect on him and he could do no more. My near neighbor was a Christian Scientist, and a practitioner lived with her.

Some time before meeting my neighbors I had read miscellaneous writings by Mary Baker Eddy in the hope of finding help for my son. After meeting my neighbors I asked for Christian Science treatment for him, and he was healed in two treatments. I thought this healing wonderful, and was happy in the thought of soon becoming a member of the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in the town.

This healing occurred just before we left Colorado for Oregon to live at a mine thirteen miles from the small town of Grants Pass. Our only transportation was by horse and buggy, so there was no way for me to attend church or for the children to attend Sunday School. We had three children of school age at that time. I was disappointed and frustrated. I considered separation from my husband, and much human planning ran through my mind in order to better our living conditions.
