Discovering Reality

From the November 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever felt that the possibility of attaining perfection was so remote that it was futile even to try for it? The mistake of believing we are working toward perfection, instead of from it, can result in a sense of futility.

In Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy, the question is asked: "Is it wrong to pray for the recovery of the sick?" And she answers: "Not if we pray Scripturally, with the understanding that God has given all things to those who love Him; but pleading with infinite Love to love us, or to restore health and harmony, and then to admit that it has been lost under His government, is the prayer of doubt and mortal belief that is unavailing in divine Science."Mis., p. 59;

If we seem to be sick, sinful, unhappy, lonely, or poor, this does not mean that anything has been lost under God's government, but that the human consciousness needs to be purged of limiting beliefs, which blind us to the good already present.
