Some Basic Points in Demonstration

From the November 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"In the Science of Mind-healing, it is imperative to be honest, for victory rests on the side of immutable right." Science and Health, p. 446; So says Mrs. Eddy. There is nothing wishy-washy about it. Honesty is basic to healing.

Mrs. Eddy says further: "Honesty is spiritual power. Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help."p. 446; It is fatuous, and I mean precisely fatuous, to think for a moment that anyone can gain any real working knowledge of Christian Science healing — the art of it — without beginning with basic honest thought. We might say that being honest is like going to the home plate to bat, for no one can play baseball if he goes out somewhere into left field and then expects the pitcher to pitch to him. Even less can we expect to receive from God the healing power of Truth if we dwell out in the waste fields of dishonesty.

All dishonesty is sin; and all sin is dishonest. It belies the truth that man as God created him is spiritual and immortal, therefore sinless. Moreover, we might say that all forms of sin are forms of insanity in varying degrees. No sinner really knows what he's doing; if he did he wouldn't do it. He's out of his mind, so to speak. Jesus' mission was to awaken humanity to its right consciousness, that sinless consciousness which is derived from God, divine Mind.
