Under New Management

From the November 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A mediocre, poorly patronized restaurant, closed many weeks for alterations, finally reopened, resplendent with fresh paint, new furniture and fixtures, and an attractive outdoor sign. In the front window, flanked by baskets of flowers, a large placard announced: UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

As a Christian Scientist who daily passed that corner stopped to admire the new decor on opening day, the familiar words of the placard suddenly took on new meaning. How many lives would be blessed, she thought, by being "under new management"—a fresh start under the guidance and government of God!

A fresh start—who needs it? Millions need it. Millions trapped in the morass of failure, discouragement, drugs, crime, alcoholism, sensualism, and numerous other isms are sorely in need of new management to straighten out their lives, wipe out the old ways, change the human scene into something constructive, and give them a new view of their own wonderful possibilities and potential. Although many of those most urgently in need of healing are not yet willing to admit it or to seek healing-—or so it seems—hosts of others are hungering for some way of escape from situations considered unbearable.
