After more than fifty years of being interested in and studying Christian Science, it is about time that I share with others the blessings that I have freely received.
I was brought up in an orthodox, Protestant faith, and accepted its teachings as a matter of course, until in high school I began to question this faith, much to my parents' distress. This dissatisfaction grew until in college I gave up church attendance entirely. A professor, recognizing my disturbed thought, gave me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, with the provision that I read it within a year to learn what it really contained. I was a lover of good books and bindings—and naturally the appearance of Science and Health—and so I decided to read it to find out what Christian Science was all about. Before I had finished the first chapter, I was healed of prejudice against Mrs. Eddy. I felt that anyone who could write such a treatise on prayer couldn't have been the kind of person reports had led me to believe she was.
My first healing was that of ingrown nails. It must have been instantaneous, for upon my return to the practitioner's office the next day, she asked, "Why are you here? The work was done in one treatment." And so it proved to be. There was no more pain, and gradually the nails grew back normally. That was many years ago, and the healing has been permanent.
