In the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we read the statement (p. 15): "Trustworthiness is the foundation of enlightened faith. Without a fitness for holiness, we cannot receive holiness."
One day while I pondered this statement, I realized that to be truly trustworthy meant to be so in the eyes of God. It would seem that I had much selfishness to overcome, much self-will and self-pity to erase from my thought. These wrong states of thought had brought me mental confusion.
At this time I found myself without income. I had a lovely home but no means of making the payments that were due, and the ordinary monthly bills were piling up. I was not physically able to hold a job, and felt alone, with few friends.
