I am deeply grateful for all the blessings I have received from the study and application of Christian Science. I was raised as a Christian Scientist, and with the help of a mother and grandmother who were devoted students of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings I had many proofs of God's healing and protecting power, including the quick healing of measles and mumps, and a more gradual healing of a serious speech impediment.
As I was growing up, I gained a working knowledge of Science, but it was not until my third year in the university, when I was faced with several problems—loss of a job, poor grades, failure in athletics, and an unhappy social life—that I relied completely upon this teaching.
I decided to attend the Christian Science college organization, and was impressed with the sincerity and success of many of its members in applying Science. This encouraged me to begin to read the Lesson-Sermon in theChristian Science Quarterly daily and attempt to put the ideas into practice. I began to see clearly that because I was the image and likeness of God, my real purpose was to express Him in every thought and act. I began to identify spiritual qualities and to consciously express them. In my studies I sought to express wisdom, understanding, memory, and insight; in athletics, coordination, balance, timing, accuracy, and strength; in social areas, love, unselfishness, and purity.
