When I was a child, my grandfather was very much disturbed over the theory of evolution, which was sweeping the country and causing much dissension. Many people were saying it did not matter where they came from but that it did matter where they were going.
My grandfather believed that unless they knew where they came from, they could not know where they were going. His theory was that man did not evolve from apes but that God made him of the dust of the earth and breathed into this man of clay the breath of life, making him a living soul (see Gen. 2:7).
The assumption that unless a man knew from whence he came he could not know where he was going was true enough; but Grandfather missed the point that it is not man formed from the dust of the earth who is immortal, but spiritual man, the man God, Spirit, created in His image and likeness, the real and eternal man the Bible reveals in the spiritual record of creation set forth in the first chapter of Genesis.
