Man Cannot Be Mesmerized

From the February 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Most of us steadfastly refuse to be mesmerized. We are aware that a person under hypnotic, or mesmeric, control may be made to believe almost anything. But each time we accept as real an experience of friction, tension, frustration, disease, or an unhappy human relationship, we have been mesmerized. A state of thought foreign to our true consciousness as God's idea has seemed to replace this consciousness, and we think and act as if it were our own.

Christian Science uncovers evil and all human discord as a mesmeric influence of the carnal mind, God's seeming opposite, which can and will be destroyed through the power of true Mind, divine Mind, when we demonstrate the control of divine intelligence by "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."II Cor. 10:5;

By daily watching at the gate of consciousness, admitting only God's angel thoughts and turning for guidance to God, who is ever available and answers true prayer, we force the retreat and disappearance of the thief that would enter our mental home and hinder our progress in proving our at-one-ment with God as His idea.
