My parents were both students of Christian Science...

From the February 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My parents were both students of Christian Science, so I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School from a very early age and attended up to the age of twenty. During those years I had much to be grateful for, but it was only when I had a family of my own that I really put the wonderful truths I had learned to the test.

On one occasion my three-month-old baby fell onto a concrete veranda when I slipped with her in my arms. My fear was great, but the calm assurance of the Christian Science practitioner whom I called quieted my thought, and the child was healed of the effects of the fall.

Another beautiful healing was that of the aftereffects of scarlet fever. Our daughter, who was eleven years old, had not regained her strength following this illness. After the quarantine was lifted, the practitioner asked me to bring the child to see her. The desire to do what was necessary to forward the healing overcame my fear. The maid helped me carry our daughter to the car, and I set off holding to the thought, "We are not alone; God's presence is with us, and we have all the support we need to take the journey." We arrived at the practitioner's home, and all the practical healing truths that were spoken awakened the child's thought and dissolved my fears. Our daughter was able to walk to the car with my support after our visit, and she had regained her strength and was perfectly well after a few days.
