My parents took up the study of Christian Science while I was a very young child. We lived in a log cabin. They were in desperate need of both physical and financial help. My mother prayed that God would meet our needs. We received a letter from a friend asking permission to come to visit us for two months. He wanted a quiet place to study. He included in the letter an advance payment by check. This seemed a miracle to us at the time. Later he brought with him the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
My folks studied the textbook night after night, and their friend read and studied during the day. As a result, my father was healed of ink poisoning, which was an occupational illness he had incurred. Members of our family were healed of nervous headaches, goiters, and hatred toward the man who had previously cheated them in a real estate transaction. Also, their financial problem was soon solved. This improvement proved conclusively what Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Sometime later we moved to a large city and became active students of Christian Science. The whole family joined The Mother Church and a branch church, and had class instruction.
Through the application of Christian Science I was healed of the effects of an automobile accident. While we were driving in inclement weather, icy patches formed on the roadway. Our car skidded on the ice and went into a tree. My head went through the glass windshield, and my neck and face were badly cut, including the area of my eyes. The police and a doctor wanted to take me to a hospital, but I declined, wanting to rely wholly on Science.
