All through the Bible are accounts of people who heard and responded to the Christ, Truth, the voice of God. Deliverance from sickness, slavery, famine, and death came to those who, in varying degrees, understood God and trusted His wisdom, power, and love. Divine power is as present and available right now as it was in Bible times. It is a matter of learning what God is, how to hear Him, and how to obey His law—and then conforming to it.
How perfectly attuned to the Christ, God's message to mankind, was Jesus, the Master! He was the highest human representative of Truth and Love. His great works of healing, his own resurrection and ascension—all achieved through spiritual means alone—show conclusively that he knew, heard, and obeyed God. The human Jesus' spiritual perception of God and of man in God's likeness empowered him to nullify what claimed to take away man's God-given right to health and harmony. But Christ Jesus' spiritual understanding was not a mere personal ability. It was an eternal emanation from God; it was a quality of the Christ, which characterized his true, immortal, spiritual being.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life,"John 14:6; he said. And lovingly he assured us, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Matt. 28:20; The "I" that Jesus declared is always with us, Christian Science teaches, is Christ, the divine idea—God's manifestation of Himself. The office of the Christ, Truth, is to relate to the human need, to awake human consciousness to the facts of being—Spirit, God, and spiritual man, forever perfect, here and now demonstrable.
