A college friend introduced me to Christian Science by inviting me to attend a Sunday church service with him. The Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation especially impressed me in this service, which I found so different from the Protestant services with which I was familiar.
Later, after this young man and I were married, I started to read his copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The first chapter on Prayer was enough to satisfy me that the teachings of Christian Science could give me a better understanding of God, for which I hungered, and the key to unlock the Bible treasures. These words from the Lord's Prayer, with Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation, are on pages 16 and 17 of that chapter:
"Thy kingdom come.
Thy kingdom is come; Thou art
ever-present.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in
heaven.
Enable us to know,—as in heaven,
so on earth,—God is omnipotent,
supreme."
