The Church Manual—Today and Forever

From the March 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Bible is largely a record of human consciousness yielding, the mortal belief giving way step by step to the spiritual idea. This spiritual idea, the truth of God, appears to human consciousness as a power working—a burning bush alerting Moses, fire from heaven confounding the prophets of Baal, Isaiah prophesying the coming of the Christ, "God so [loving] the world, that he gave his only begotten Son . . .," John 3:16; Christian Science discovered by Mary Baker Eddy.

As the tribes of Israel, going through great tribulation in yielding to the truth, needed guidance, we need assurance that the "pillar of fire" we are following by night and the "pillar of a cloud" by day really represent the guidance of divine Mind.Ex. 13:21; The Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy provides direct, individual guidance to everyone desiring spiritual growth. In an article entitled "Mental Digestion" she writes, "Of this I am sure, that each Rule and By-law in this Manual will increase the spirituality of him who obeys it, invigorate his capacity to heal the sick, to comfort such as mourn, and to awaken the sinner." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 230;

How grateful we can be for what the Manual provides! Committees on Publication protect our legal right to practice Christian Science. The Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly unites all Christian Scientists in study and prayer. The Church is held together as one in a way that allows no room for personal factions or divisions.
