A Lull in the Conversation

From the January 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A good listener is a delight—ask any big talker! Once, in referring to someone who had told something she should not have repeated, a member of my family said, "I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but you know how compulsive talkers are—perhaps there was a lull in the conversation. They can't stand that, you know. They'll tell anything just to break the silence!"

I was slightly uncomfortable. In making that comment could she possibly have had me in mind? I accepted the rebuke and decided to keep a firm watch over my conversation.

In working out our problems in Christian Science we need to go much further than just refraining from doing something. We need to understand the specific spiritual truths that will heal the situation.
