Our Prayer for World Peace Is Vital

From the January 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As he begins to understand scientifically the perfect spiritual and eternal nature of the universe and know that it is inhabited by God's spiritual ideas, not by mortals, the student of Christian Science has a vital contribution to make through prayer to the peace of the world.

He is learning that in reality there are no warring, sinning, sick, or dying mortals —or well mortals, for that matter—but only God's perfect spiritual ideas dwelling forever in the realm of Mind in harmony and peace. God is the only Mind. In reality there is no mortal mind to think up or believe in any mortal beliefs, including harmful and destructive ones. This realization is the scientific Christian's "vital breath" and "native air," See Christian Science Hymnal, No. 284; and, equipped with this basic spiritual understanding, he is able to maintain a healing consciousness of peace that embraces the world and sends forth strong currents of Truth to heal and bless mankind. This knowledge of God and of man's relationship to Him, lived and loved through entertaining the peaceful qualities of Mind inherent in individual consciousness, is destined ultimately to draw all mankind into the realm of harmony and peace here on earth.

The Christianly scientific worker, therefore, views the many unsolved problems confronting the world as evidence of a great mental chemicalization, in which the action of Truth is bringing erroneous mortal beliefs to the surface to be destroyed. The fruitless efforts of mankind to resolve this state of world thought into harmony and peace by material ways and means rather than by spiritualization of consciousness is rousing many to recognize the need of looking deeper for permanent solutions. Christian Science teaches that the final resolving of human needs lies in the spiritual understanding of the Scriptures, where, for instance, the Revelator tells of "a new heaven and a new earth." Rev. 21:1; This Science is bringing to the world a dynamic, arresting message of renewal and hope—the harbingers of peace.
