For many years I suffered with severe headaches and colds. There were many times when I asked a practitioner of Christian Science for help with the headaches, for they occurred quite frequently and were severe. The practitioner's prayers always resulted in quick relief. My own prayerful work was effective on two occasions.
One Sunday afternoon a headache began to trouble me. I could neither sit up and read nor lie down. I declared out loud that this was a lie about man. I recognized that man is spiritual, and I am God's spiritual, perfect child. On that basis I resolved not to listen anymore to error's suggestion of pain. By vehemently declaring and affirming the true facts of God and man in His image and likeness and staying with the truth, I felt the pain diminish and finally disappear. Since Christian Science teaches that God is Spirit and man is His spiritual image and likeness, I knew I must adhere to its teaching to heal sickness.
The other occasion was in the night when the pain occurred. I prayed. "The scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was indeed the answer to my prayer for healing. It is: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." My hands, which were gripping the sheet, loosened their hold, and I went to sleep, thanking God for the wonderful comfort and relief this treatment brought me. In the morning there was no pain. It had vanished like the night with the coming of dawn. I do not recall any more severe attacks of headache after this healing, and I am grateful that Christian Science has healed me permanently.
