An introduction to Christian Science came to my family at the turn of the century through the healing of a beloved aunt. She had been thrown from her horse, and he had stepped on her, crushing her. To onlookers she appeared to die. But a Christian Science couple, though strangers, through brotherly love asked, and were given permission, to pray for her; and she revived and was healed.
This healing came just at the time my mother was to be operated upon for the removal of a malignant tumor. My aunt came to see us to tell us of the wonders of Christian Science, and my mother was healed overnight. Both my mother and aunt lived many years afterward in good health, in deep gratitude, glorifying God.
I was in my early teens at that time. I had been a sickly child suffering from very painful earaches, daily violent nosebleeds, fainting spells, and the annoying effects of chilblains and other miseries. Through reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the eternality of Life and Truth were so illumined for me, all these symptoms faded away and never returned.
