EXCHANGE

From the May 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I love expanse of sea
and star-crowned nights
for blackboard thoughts
(uncluttered
simple
free).

I love them as I love
the shell
the spider's web
the leaf.
Exchanging these for thoughts —
what noble thoughts they are —
those graceful curves
and wonders of geometry
in gossamer
and humble symmetry!

For what will we exchange the sky,
for what exchange the sea?

For what but Spirit's vantage point?
Behold! Infinity.! .! .
