Gratitude for the system

From the February 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Scientist is grateful not only for the freedom he receives in healing but also for the system of metaphysics that enabled him to understand enough about God to be healed. If our appreciation for the healing system diminishes, so may our ability to practice it.

From an impartial point of view, Christian Science healing is virtually a miracle to human thought. The systems of various kinds of material medicine have taken as much as several thousand years to develop. In a scant one hundred years the healing practice of Christian Science has proved itself to be a legitimate, effective curative system. Some families have practiced it now for more than four generations. This system is the reinstatement of primitive Christian healing. God and His infinite goodness are accepted as All. Man is recognized as spiritual—expressive of the very nature of God.

People on every continent of the globe and from virtually every walk of life have found that an understanding of the perfection of God and man brings powerful healing results to human discords. The woman who wrote the textbook of this system, Mary Baker Eddy, declares, "Since the author's discovery of the might of Truth in the treatment of disease as well as of sin, her system has been fully tested and has not been found wanting; but to reach the heights of Christian Science, man must live in obedience to its divine Principle."
