Testimonies of Healing

I thank our loving Father-Mother God...

From the February 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I thank our loving Father-Mother God for the priceless gift of Christian Science. It was introduced to my family, when I was very young, by a close family friend. My sister and I were very soon enrolled in the Sunday School, and our family witnessed many healings as we grew to understand this Science.

A memorable healing for me took place when I was eight years old. When the symptoms appeared my parents notified health authorities, who diagnosed scarlet fever and required that I be isolated as much as possible. Having complied with the law, and wishing to rely wholly on their newfound understanding of God, my parents phoned a Christian Science practitioner for help through scientific prayer. When my family feared they might lose me, the practitioner came to the house. While the practitioner stayed downstairs calming my parents' fears, his loving wife came up to my room. My memory of that moment is that after days of intense heat I felt cool and refreshed. It was the calm, healing touch of the Christ, Truth. The fever broke, and not many minutes later, I went down a long flight of stairs unaided, sat down in my favorite chair, and asked for something to eat. I was perfectly well. I cherish the memory of that gentle, healing Christ touch to this day.

Even if raised in Christian Science, each one must truly make it his own. When I was tempted to doubt my understanding and commitment to Science, particularly during college, I was sustained by the conviction gained through a healing of seasickness. This was my first major healing outside the supportive circle of my family. I had an opportunity to study abroad. This involved a North Atlantic crossing in very rough weather. My friends were all relying on medicine to avoid seasickness, but I knew I would be blessed by total reliance on God. After a few days at sea, when many of my friends, in spite of their drugs, were too ill to leave their cabins, I too began having all the symptoms. I went to my bunk and asked God to show me what I needed to know.
