For me The Herald of Christian Science with its instructive articles and testimonies has always been a welcome and uplifting renewal of spiritual inspiration, and the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, given us for study, enlarges my understanding of Christian Science.
I was led to Christian Science prior to the Second World War. I did not arrive at the eastern front until 1942. I had brought along two copies of the Herald in my knapsack, and my thoughts were continually on the ninety-first Psalm and the love of God. I was learning to accept in Christian Science (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 6): "'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go." I never entertained the thought of having to shoot at other people in order to preserve my life. After one and a half years, through God's wonderful direction, I returned home to my family and to my previous position.
Through confidence and trust in Christian Science and study of the Bible and Science and Health, my family and I felt we were always under the protection of the Almighty God during the turbulent years after the Second World War.
