When the seventy disciples returned to Jesus after their foray into the world, they must have recounted to him the healings they had accomplished, for Luke records them as saying, "Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name." Luke 10:17;
Christ Jesus' response to their natural joy at the healing results of their work may seem surprising at first, for he replied: "..Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." v. 20;
Was Jesus belittling the importance of healing? It is impossible to believe this of one who healed men and women of all kinds of diseases, raised more than one from the dead, and told his disciples, "These signs shall follow them that believe;...they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Mark 16: 17, 18;
