I feel like shouting from the housetops, "Arthritis sufferers, take heart—Christian Science does heal!"
In February of 1977 I came home from work one day suffering from severe pain in my back and other alarming symptoms. I called a Christian Science practitioner to ask for treatment, but despite my own prayer and the work of the practitioner, the painful condition persisted during the next few months.
In June the condition became aggravated. I woke one morning to find that I could not move without feeling intense pain in every joint of my body. My sister, who was caring for me, conferred with my husband, and it was finally decided that I should be taken to a physician for a diagnosis. My condition was diagnosed by two doctors as rheumatoid arthritis and a lingering kidney infection. They told me that there was no cure for the arthritis, and I would have to learn to live with the pain—nothing short of narcotics would even relieve it.
