My eldest sister gave me Christian Science when I was a teen-ager. I had three wonderful years as a pupil in The Mother Church Sunday School and joined The Mother Church at the end of that time. The simple truths taught appealed to my great need to know God as my Father-Mother.
My healing last year of an illness that was not diagnosed is cause for rejoicing. Although I attended church services regularly and lectures on Christian Science, much of my time for two years was spent on our living room couch. I performed only a minimum of household chores, though constantly reading the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the Christian Science periodicals, the biographies of Mary Baker Eddy, and praying for better health.
In February of this past year our eldest son arranged with his brother and sister to fly from their homes in California, Michigan, and New Jersey, so they might help their father and me celebrate their dad's retirement from a full and successful career as a chemical engineer. The love the children brought was tremendous, and their gratitude to us as parents was expressed in many ways. Healing began to dawn in my consciousness. I was happier and had strength to do household chores once more. I wanted to see our friends and have them come to the home again. I was now ready to become active in church work, as I had been in earlier times. The Bible says (Phil. 4:13), "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." The answer to the question "What is man?" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, was studied more diligently. The statement (p. 475), "Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science," has been an important guideline to me and helped to forward my complete healing.
