Ten years ago the pressures of daily...

From the September 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Ten years ago the pressures of daily living weighed on me so persistently that my vision was affected. Finally I couldn't see clearly enough to carry on in my work. Despite my earnest efforts to prove the fact that good seeing involves spiritual insight and an understanding of man's true spiritual nature, rather than reliance on material or physical structure, the strain appeared overwhelming.

Because my driver's license was due for renewal, a time factor added to the problem. So, during vacation I had an eye examination. The oculist said. "You're colorblind." He added that I had a condition he was unable to help with the usual corrective glasses and that a physician should be consulted. This was an unexpected verdict.

As I left his office, I decided to turn away from this false, gloomy picture. Mary Baker Eddy states in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 390): "'Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him.' Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin." These truths penetrated my anxiety with renewed hope and courage.
