Your lecture—a season to cherish

From the September 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the important healing activities of the Church of Christ, Scientist, is giving a lecture. The time we spend preparing for it can be one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. It reminds me of a prayer I once heard: "Blessed art thou, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who hast kept us and enabled us to reach this season."

As our church reaches the lecture season, we may recall the instruction of Christ Jesus: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15; This is the purpose of each Christian Science lecture. The world urgently needs the knowledge and demonstration of divine Mind's power to heal. Through the lecture we share this knowledge of God with our community and help erase some of mankind's blindness to God's unlimited good for all.

The prayers of our Master, Christ Jesus, especially those before some important event in his career, show the necessity of spiritual readiness for a lecture today. Through inspired prayer—prayer vividly aware of God's ever-presence— we understand man's spiritual being and spark a healing atmosphere. The more consecrated our prayers, the greater the healing influence our lecture will have.
