We are pleased to report the transfer of complete responsibility for the ownership and operation of the Benevolent Association Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, from The Mother Church to a Board of Trustees representing the Northeastern Field. As you know, this transfer parallels the one completed successfully on the West Coast within recent years.
The name of the Massachusetts facility has now been changed formally to "Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association." Its relationship to The Mother Church is now similar to that of the other regional nursing facilities accredited by The Mother Church. The Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association will continue to operate a Christian Science Nurses Training School, one of three such facilities in the United States. The Board of Trustees has been very actively engaged in the operation of the Chestnut Hill facility for many months, thereby paving the way for an orderly completion of the transfer process.
During the period since the Trustees were asked by us to take over responsibility for operating the Sanatorium at Chestnut Hill, they have made in-depth studies of the need for Christian Science nursing care in the northeastern region of the United States, and of the staff and plant resources available at Chestnut Hill to meet those needs. The Trustees are committed to continuing the Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association as an institution primarily devoted to providing the highest quality of Christian Science nursing. All their planning is keyed directly to that function in support of healing. However, the sanatorium's rest and study accommodations will also continue to be available.
