Christly prayer restores and regenerates

From the August 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A farmer planted seeds in his field, the Bible tells us. As the fruit the plants bore began to ripen, the workers noticed tares growing side by side with the wheat. "An enemy hath done this," remarked the farmer. And he ordered his servants, "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn."Matt. 13:28, 30. Not until the kernels had developed could the workers distinguish between the tares and wheat.

The qualities of thought, like the characteristics of a plant, determine its value. Inspiration, love, and understanding are spiritual qualities that elevate thought in Christian Science treatment, and the product of this prayer is healing.

Inspired prayer asserts God's control over His creation, man and the universe; it declares the completeness, harmony, and purity of their original and eternal perfection. Through prayer we affirm God's allness while denying error any authority.
