Feeding God's flock

From the September 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus' teachings filled people with the good news of spiritual reality— with the fact of God's goodness, power, and divine presence. He turned thought from acceptance of the evidence of the material senses to reliance on Spirit's infinite provision for man, and brought healing to people everywhere he went.

In order to nourish others, he claimed sustenance, strength, and renewal through his regular, prayerful acknowledgment of man's unity with God. Although his life embodied the fullness of the Christ— God's presence and power—Jesus would sometimes spend all night in prayer to God, seeking more of the influence of the Christ, Truth, to share with others in healing. He recognized that man is fed and sustained by the divine energies of Love and Truth pouring out from infinite Life when he said, "I have meat to eat that ye know not of." He made clear that these immortal resources were to be utilized in the regeneration of human life when he added, "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work."John 4:32, 34.

Mrs. Eddy plainly points up the importance of spiritual replenishing when she writes in Science and Health, "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." Science and Health, p. 449. She also writes: "The work of healing, in the Science of Mind, is the most sacred and salutary power which can be wielded. My Christian students, impressed with the true sense of the great work before them, enter this strait and narrow path, and work conscientiously." Retrospection and Introspection, pp. 54-55. Many are searching for divine direction to "enter this strait and narrow path" of God's healing work. They're finding the value of deep, spiritual research in bringing to light the nourishment of the healing Christ for themselves and others.
