Through our individual practice of Christian Science we learn the value of prayerfully considering what is really being demanded of us under every circumstance. Jesus' entire earthly experience exemplified his own words, "Not my will, but thine, be done." Luke 22:42. He consistently obeyed every demand made on him by the Father in his healing ministry— taking unswervingly the steps that led to his crucifixion, resurrection, and finally his ascension.
Underlying the Apostle Paul's early enthusiasm as a persecutor of Jesus' teachings must have been a sincere desire to do the will of God. As he journeyed to Damascus to preach against Jesus, he was shown in an undeniable way not only that what he was doing was contrary to his own deepest convictions but also how to comply with the strong spiritual demand that was being made on him. His dedication and willingness to obey led to his conversion and healing, and then to his career as an establisher of the Christian Church.See Acts, chap. 9.
If we are to be followers of the Master, we would do well to ask ourselves in every instance, What is the real demand? Through her study of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy arrived at this conclusion: "Truth, Life, and Love are the only legitimate and eternal demands on man, and they are spiritual lawgivers, enforcing obedience through divine statutes."
