In 1973 my husband and I were introduced to Christian Science. We had purchased carpeting for our house, and the carpetlayer turned out to be one of the Readers in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, a few miles from where we lived. During a conversation he invited us to attend church the following Sunday, which we did. Afterward I was eager to return the next week, and I was especially impressed that the service began with readings from the Bible. Thereafter we attended a branch church in our town.
At that time I was working in one of the largest medical research centers in the country. Being a licensed vocational nurse (or practical nurse) and having been on various forms of medication for thirty years (I was then on five types of medication), I was thoroughly immersed in the field of medicine. Nevertheless I became very interested in Christian Science.
It was an exciting time for me. When I inquired about joining the branch church, the clerk encouraged me first to study the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for a time, to be sure I wanted to become a student of Christian Science. Later I understood the wisdom of her advice.
