The day we moved into our new home, just before Christmas, our newfound friend and helper remarked that she had always longed to have a Christmas carol sing but had never had a piano. Seeing ours, she said, "Why don't you have one?" To me there were plenty of reasons why we could not have one. Apart from the piano, we had very little furniture. We did not know anyone in our new country to invite. Our resources were limited. Nonetheless we accepted the suggestion, inviting friends of hers and improvising seats with blankets on boards. We had the happiest evening, sharing the joy of the Christ.
How often do we think we have to postpone good? How often do we regret the loss of good that we think has passed out of our lives? Are we standing still, giving up, because we feel we do not know enough about God and prayer to be healed? Christian Science assures us that our true nature as the expression of divine Love is recognizable and provable now.
As in Christ Jesus' parable where "a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls . . . found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it,"Matt. 13:45, 46. so can we. That pearl is Christian Science, which imparts the scientific understanding of spiritual reality, including the recognition that we are God's dear children, the reflection of divine Love, of living Love. Mrs. Eddy writes: "Christian Science is not only the acme of Science but the crown of Christianity. It is universal. It appeals to man as man; to the whole and not to a portion; to man physically, as well as spiritually, and to all mankind." Further on she also writes, ". . yea, it is the pearl priceless whereof our Master said, if a man findeth, he goeth and selleth all that he hath and buyeth it."Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 252-253.
