In recent years my study of Christian Science has focused on learning to trust God with the care of our family. I was raised in Christian Science and subsequently married a fellow student of Science. So it was very natural for me to turn to God for direction and protection in my marriage and in raising our children.
Our family has had countless proofs of the power of God through healings of disease and the effects of accidents, and demonstrations of supply and employment. The lessons learned through these experiences helped us during a very difficult challenge that involved our oldest child.
As our daughter approached her teenage years, my relationship with her began to deteriorate. There were increasingly longer periods of misunderstanding and inharmony. While I was always mindful of the child's innate spiritual goodness and felt genuine love for her, I also recognized the need to deal with claims of intensity and, at times, willfulness. Unfortunately, my own frustration in trying to deal with the problem humanly resulted frequently in my losing my temper, which, of course, only aggravated the situation.
