I am indeed grateful for Mrs. Eddy's...

From the April 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed grateful for Mrs. Eddy's persistence in searching out the healing Science of Christ and for her diligence in sharing this discovery with mankind. The study of Christian Science has enriched, healed, restored, and enlightened me. It continues to show me the wonderful, real universe of divine Life, Truth, and Love, replacing fear with trust in God for my happiness, my supply, my well-being.

I was born in a rural community in Arkansas. My mother said that shortly after I was born I started having spells where I would occasionally turn blue and pass out. In fear, she would run with me to the nearest neighbor, quite a distance down the road, for help. Several doctors were consulted in the expectation that a cure could be found for my condition. But those physicians she contacted gave her no hope for my life. (I should add here that my father traveled a great deal, so he wasn't home much.) The condition of spells continued until I was fourteen months old. Mother was then expecting another child. At that point, I had never sat alone or played on the floor; I could only lie in bed in an elevated position or on my mother's lap.

Mother had an older sister who lived some distance away and who had never seen me. She and Mother had corresponded, so she knew I was a frail child. Recognizing my mother's need for help, my aunt suggested that we come for a visit so she could assist with my sister and me, and Mother could rest. What a blessing this was!
