My last testimony was published in an April 1950 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel, so I feel it is appropriate that I again offer my gratitude for the blessings which have come into my life through Christian Science. In her book Rudimental Divine Science Mrs. Eddy answers the question "How would you define Christian Science?" in this way (p. 1): "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." This law of harmony was demonstrated to me in a very practical manner several years ago.
At one point I slipped and fell down a flight of concrete steps, injuring my back. I declared immediately that there is no sensation in matter. I knew that pain is merely mortal belief—a false concept of true being, which is immortal and painless. I also knew that such suggestions as pain come from a false premise—a mistaken sense of reality, projected as material consciousness. Therefore they can have no effect whatsoever on the man of God's creating—Truth's idea—nor can they produce inharmony of any kind.
Almost immediately the pain receded. However, the following day it became difficult for me to carry out my duties as a harbor pilot. Because of this and because I was a civil servant, it was necessary for me to obtain a medical diagnosis.
