Since childhood I have had the privilege of studying, practicing, and loving Christian Science. What it has taught me of God and of the real, spiritual nature of man has been a way of guidance, healing, protection, of help in difficult situations, and of comfort in sorrow. Where I would be and what I would be without this spiritual view of life, I don't know.
Some healings have seemed to me especially holy and have therefore left deeper traces. A few of these I relate here.
While still an infant our eldest daughter became quite ill. Since my husband's family (who are not Christian Scientists) were deeply worried, I was persuaded to take the child to a doctor. After examining her, this doctor told me that our daughter was suffering from blood scrofula. He kindly gave me the prescriptions he said she'd need. However, I never filled them. Instead I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. My husband was in agreement on this step. In about two weeks the little one was well; my husband's family was grateful. But one day years later, when this daughter was in school, the nurse there asked me to take the child to the tuberculosis clinic for a checkup immediately, as an examination showed signs of the disease. This we did in compliance with the laws of our country.
