When I was a young girl my mother was medically diagnosed as having a physical condition considered incurable. Her own mother had been healed of a serious illness by turning to Christian Science, and so my mother now turned to the study of this wonderful Science. She was healed and lived for many years, eventually becoming a Christian Science practitioner.
The first healing of my own that I remember occurred when I was about twelve years old and visiting relatives. One day I felt very unwell and began to think about some of the spiritual truths I had been learning in Christian Science. This phrase came to thought, "... truth removes properly whatever is offensive." This is part of a sentence in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy which states (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I thought about this for some time; and indeed the physical distress disappeared, and I was fine.
My husband and I raised our three children in Christian Science. At one point, however, I found myself so busy with everyday responsibilities that I wasn't really studying Science. Early one morning I woke up to find our youngest child having difficulty breathing. We called a Christian Science practitioner to ask for prayerful support for him.
