Defending oneself daily from animal magnetism

From the April 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A great theological mistake from which much of the religious confusion of the world stems is the belief in the reality of evil. Christian Science shows that all evil is animal magnetism and teaches us how to negate the multitude of false beliefs engendered by such a lie.

False beliefs seem very real if one does not understand the nature of reality. "That man is the idea of infinite Mind, always perfect in God, in Truth, Life, and Love, is something not easily accepted, weighed down as is mortal thought with material beliefs," writes our Leader, Mrs. Eddy. "That which never existed, can seem solid substance to this thought."Miscellaneous Writings, p. 5.

True substance is spiritual. As thought accepts this premise, it loses its conviction of the reality of matter. False beliefs cease to dominate one's thinking, and the true view of reality appears—God as Spirit, and man made in God's likeness, perfect, free, and good.
