"When the heart speaks ..."

From the May 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This isn't a workshop on communication skills. It won't try to outline how to present "correct" or "airtight" explanations of Christian Science, nor will it be a lesson in "witnessing" or outreach in the evangelistic sense. Sharing our faith is as warmly individual a matter as sharing our love. In fact, any workshop that aims at considering how we can communicate the substance of Christian Science more thoughtfully to others must really be, for all of us, a workshop on deepening our love.

Mrs. Eddy said it so beautifully in a familiar passage that brings out the essence of spiritually impelled sharing: "When the heart speaks, however simple the words, its language is always acceptable to those who have hearts."Miscellaneous Writings, p. 262.

The language of the heart is everyone's native language. It isn't limited to a few experts. It isn't a euphemism for gushing piety (any more than "a cup of cold water" is equivalent to a bucket of lukewarm soapsuds!) but flows only from what we are honestly living and reflecting of God's love.
