A student of Mrs. Eddy recalls in We Knew Mary Baker Eddy (p. 65) that Mrs. Eddy suggested that she keep an exact record of her demonstrations of Christian Science healing. Over the years I have tried to do this, too. As I reread these experiences, what a sense of gratitude comes flooding in! The following are some of the highlights in our family's record of healings.
One day our oldest son found one of our two-year-old twins floating facedown, unconscious, in our above-ground swimming pool and pulled him out. I carried him inside while I prayed, knowing that God is the Life of man and that this child was actually the complete expression of God. Almost immediately, signs of life appeared, the color became more natural, and the child coughed up water several times. Because his recovery was so quick it was unnecessary to seek medical attention though this would be the general procedure established by Canadian health laws.
Later, two relatives arrived. Although it was apparent that the healing had taken place, they suggested that we take the little one to the fire department a few blocks away and let them be satisfied that all was well. This led to a local doctor's ordering that the child be taken to the hospital. We complied, although the admitting doctor at the hospital thought the child looked fine. The child was kept there overnight though he required no nursing care and slept soundly all night. There were no aftereffects from this incident.
